Day after day I get approached at the gym and get asked this simple question, ” Bro do you drink protein shakes?” The more I hear it the more it aggravates me. The answer to this question, obviously, is no! Wait, no? Yes, I do not take protein or drink protein shakes for one simple reason, they do not work. 55 GRAMS OF PROTEIN IN JUST 2 SCOOPS!!! Wow, that’s really impressive. It’s also really impressive that your body can only take in 25-30 grams a serving. So what happens to that extra protein? Well you just pee it out, plain and simple. In a 16 oz glass of chocolate milk and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter there is a total of 23 grams of protein. The perfect serving of protein with a respectful amount of calories to energize your body. A month supply of chocolate milk and peanut butter is only about $15. The last time I took protein powder I was a sophomore in high school weighing 185 lb benching only about 225 lb and squatting 315 lb. As of today I weigh 191 lb, can bench over 380 lb and squat 455 lb. The only results I got from protein powder were unwanted fat and that feeling of being bloated. I have never felt stronger and leaner without the use of protein powder. Every time someone comes up to me saying they haven’t seen any results from working out for months i ask them if they take protein. They always answer yes. Then in about a month I will ask that individual if they have seen any results eating just peanut butter and chocolate milk and the answer is always yes. Save yourself money and stick with peanut butter and chocolate milk (or regular milk) because I can guarantee you that you will feel bigger, leaner, and stronger without it.

I really found this interesting, as I girl I don’t work out even close enough to be able to take supplements. BUT when I do run or workout I tend try to eat a snack of some type of vegetable and peanut butter. Most people say it’s pointless, but I’m glad to see that I’m doing something relatively right. Thanks!
I myself have never been one to workout. I have never heard that protein shakes dont work. that is new to me but knowing this new information about chocolate milk and peanut butter i will save money when i eventually go to the gym. very interesting blog and i enjoyed learning something new.
I truly enjoyed reading this post. One of my roommates has been seriously working out this year, 5 days a week I believe, and he drinks a protein shake right after every workout. Occasionally he will say something like, I thought I would see more results by now.. To which I respond, maybe you need a more balanced diet, maybe a salad once in a while? Without hesitation, he decides that he just needs more protein. I will be sure to show him your blog post and try to save him some time and money.
I found your post very interesting. I myself try to workout on a consistent basis and do a lot of strength training exercises such as benching and squatting. I have not taken protein shakes for awhile but that is not because I didn’t know that they were not that effective. The reason I had stopped using them was largely because they were very expensive and I was trying to get most of my protein from my regular diet such as chicken and other lean meats. I also liked your statistic stating that your body can only consume about 25-30 grams of protein in as serving. I had no idea! Wow, how wasteful I must have been when I had taken protein shakes in the past. I will be sure to try and get my protein from my diet and when looking for a good shake after a workout I will stick to some chocolate milk with a scoop of peanut butter.
What a phenomenal post Bobby. As someone who goes to the gym on a daily basis, it is good to know that I don’t need to be wasting my money on a product that won’t produce the results that I am looking for. It is also beneficial to know that I can get something much cheaper, being that a college student is forever balling on a budget. I think it is a very common misconception that protein shakes are the key to building muscle, however, now I can share a cost efficient alternative with my friends!
Thanks.
