When individuals skip breakfast it can have a series of negative effects on them. Eating breakfast is THE most important meal of the day. It has to many benefits for your body and brain that it just makes no sense to me that someone would want to skip it. The way i approach breakfast is that it is your one meal of the day where, technically, you can eat anything you want too.

Why is this? Well if you think about it, whatever you eat in the morning you will burn off throughout the whole entire day. There is a simple formula to find out how many calories you burn a day naturally(without exercise) based off your sex, height and age.

MALE: 66 + (6.3 × body weight in pounds) + (12.9 × height in inches) − (6.8 × age in years)

FEMALE: 655 + (4.3 × weight in pounds) + (4.7 × height in inches) − (4.7 × age in years)

Since I weigh 192 lbs, about 5’10”  and 19 years old, I burn about 2070 calories a day. This is a significant amount, so if you think about it, if a eat a 1000 calories breakfast i will easily burn it off by the end of the day. I always encourage people to eat breakfast because you could use it as a cheat meal if you wanted too because it is basically the only meal you can burn off throughout the day.

There are other simple benefits of eating breakfast besides eating whatever you want. According to studies, eating breakfast can actually encourage individuals to eat less throughout the day, helping in trying to lose weight. It can also help you concentrate better, improve cognitive thinking, physical strength and lower cholesterol levels. So if you ever read this foolish article on why to skip breakfast, just know it was probably written by an individual that doesn’t know a thing about nutrition and it also doesn’t have any sources to back up their evidence.

5 thoughts on “Why you should never skip breakfast.

  1. I have never understood how people skip breakfast, I don’t think I could make it through the day if I didn’t eat breakfast. The formula that you provided in your post is interesting and very useful! I think most people don’t realize how many calories your body burns every day naturally but it is important so that we can make sure we eat enough calories for our bodies to function properly.

  2. I thought this was really helpful! I like that you included the formula for figuring out how many calories you burn. In high school, I would usually skip breakfast because I was always in a hurry in the morning and then I would end up taking a nap after school. Once I came to college, I got into the habit of eating breakfast in the morning and I did notice I had more energy throughout the day. So I totally agree with your argument!

  3. Have you ever heard of the theory that you should run or workout before you eat breakfast? I have a friend that is a personal trainer for Golds Gym and he had talked to me about this idea. He had said that it burn more fat because your body is striving for fat or calories. After he said that he remarked that you should eat breakfast after and agreed with your chocolate milk theory in your early blog. What do you think about this idea and is there a time frame that you should breakfast by to see the benefits you were talking about?

  4. I’m typically the person who skips breakfast, because it means I can sleep later. But I didn’t know it could be so beneficial to your body. I may actually start trying to get up and eat.

  5. I thought your blog was very interesting. For me personally, I have a problem with eating breakfast. I can’t seem to eat anything in the morning because I am not hungry when I wake up. When I try to eat something, I generally feel kind of sick. Do you have any recommendations as to what I could do or any thoughts on why this may be?
