How to Keep Your Fitness Goals Alive During a Pandemic

Being disciplined with your workout routine is not always the easiest thing. Being disciplined with your workout routine during a pandemic is a whole new challenge. First off, you probably don’t have any where close to the same setup at home as your gym. Second, your workout might be dictated by the weather, which usually isn’t the case if you have a gym to go to.

Although staying disciplined with your workout is no easy task, here are some tips on How to Keep Your Fitness Goals Alive During a Pandemic.

1. Redefine Your Fitness Goals

Now that gyms are closed and you don’t have access to a squat rack or bench press, maybe it is time to reevaluate your current goals and redefine them to fit your current situation.

For example, one of my goals was to get my bench back to 405. Obviously, this isn’t going to be possible since I haven’t been able to bench press since March, so instead and swapped this goal out with being able to do 50 pushups in under a minute.

This is a more realistic goal given my current circumstances and is achievable. Try this with one of your goals and see how you can tailor based on your new situation.

2. Find workouts that fit your new ‘Routine'

With gyms being closed, many  fitness workout apps (Nike+, Fitbit, etc.) have been letting users access premium features and workouts for free. These are great because majority of these workouts can be done with little to no equipment, which probably work best with your current situation stuck at home.

Here at top tier, we have transitioned our workout of the days to be tailored to a home workout. This is because majority of our users are currently without a gym still (Thanks Roy Cooper) and have limited equipment. Go checkout some of our workouts here!

I would suggest purchasing some sort of dumbbells or resistance bands just to have incase something like this happens again this upcoming fall or winter. I would get a weight which could be used for many different exercises. For example, I have 30 lb dumbbells, which is perfect for some exercises but too light for others. But for the exercises they are too light for, I usually just crank out a lot more reps.

3.Create or become apart of a fitness community

A fitness community can be something as simple as you and a group of your friends, holding each other accountable each day on doing something active. There are also legit fitness communities you can join which can hold zoom workout classes or even local outdoor classes (maintaing 6-feet apart of course). Here is a link to some online fitness communities you can join!

This is a great way to keep you in a good workout routine because other people are going to hold you accountable and even motivate you to make sure you are staying healthy and active during this time.

Here at Top Tier, we have been doing Zoom classes occasionally and been doing outdoor classes. If you would like to be apart of our fitness community and participate in our zoom or outdoor classes, feel free to reach out us via email or social media!
