It has been almost 5 months now since the gyms in North Carolina have closed. I know there have been some gyms that have reopened, given the loophole about having a doctor’s note, but the vast majority of gyms still have not open up their indoor facilities.
I am hoping that this week, on 8/7, Roy Cooper will allow gyms to open back up if they follow the appropriate precautionary procedures. If I were Roy Cooper, I think this is his smartest option if he wants a chance of getting re-elected this year.
WHERE’S THE CAPITALISM?
If you believe in a capitalist economy, then the government should have little to no intervention on how you operate your business. Right now, this is not the case in NC or really anywhere in the US. We are currently experiencing what it is like when the government has total control over your business, especially when they continue to force you to keep your doors close.
My thing is, I totally understand that this virus is no joke and has had catastrophic consequences so far and many people have lost their lives to it. But I also believe that ALL businesses should be responsible for enforcing the appropriate measures in order to keep their customers safe. If you don’t feel safe going to a certain business, then don’t go. Nothing is forcing us to go out in public if we don’t feel safe doing so.
But let’s say gyms are open and 90% of the members of a gym don’t feel safe going and decide to cancel their membership. The business would probably have no choice other than to close their doors. But I can get behind this, because the CONSUMER decided the business would fail, NOT the GOVERNMENT. Basic Capitalism.
Businesses are continuing to go under in NC because they have no other choice. You can only survive so long without any income, still having to pay rent and utilities (as of 8/1 – And not to mention, you need to pay the amount you have deferred until this date, it didn’t just magically disappear), and with the government forcing you to be closed.
RECAP
To recap, when are we going to take responsibility as human beings to do the right thing and take the proper precautions to keep individuals safe without the government holding our hand, because to me, it doesn’t seem like this virus is going away anytime soon and we can’t continue to force certain business to be closed. If you don’t feel good STAY AT HOME. STAY 6 FEET APART. WEAR A MASK. WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS.
Open Up NC Gyms!
